We had a fabulous weekend! Everything about it was perfect. Saturday, the day we did all our outdoor adventures, was a beautiful 69 degrees, partly sunny and very fallish. Our adventures began with a drive up the gorgeous North shore to the Split Rock Lighthouse were we took a 45 minute tour to learn all we could about the shipwrecks and the life of the lighthouse keepers. From there we drove down the North shore to the Gooseberry Falls. Rob and I have been to all these places before and were so excited to show the kids what we had seen, but we were the ones that were surprised. Prior to our weekend there, Duluth received about 2 inches of rain and the once dry falls were gushing and created a thunderous waterfall. From all the comments we heard the Gooseberry Falls had NEVER been so amazing. The color of the water has an orange tint because of all the iron. Later that day we visited the Great Lakes Aquarium were we learned about the fish that live in the Lake Superior. They had a Seahorse exhibit that was very interesting...the daddy seahorses give birth to his babies, there is a little teaser, go learn more about these amazing creatures. The kids thoroughly enjoyed watching the otters receive their snack. And Micah touched a sturgeon and Rob touched a stingray. These were our highlights in a nut shell. The best part of all were the memories that we made together as a family. The kids were at the perfect age to enjoy and be fascinated by all the little things and to see their faces light up was a priceless gift to Rob and I.
